Franco is pleased to be a part of the Verizon II restoration project, completed in the Fall of 2014. This building is located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, clearly visible and a high profile example of the City’s Renaissance architecture. Our approach to restoration and the work completed by our experienced craftsman went a long way towards preserving the integrity and beauty of the building. Plans are already underway for Phase III, ensuring that the Verizon flagship building will remain a viable part of the Pittsburgh community for years to come.

The crown jewel of Pittsburgh’s North Shore development, the new home of the Pittsburgh Pirates is a masonry project unlike any other.
From the granite base and cast stone panels at the sidewalk level, up through the rockfaced dolomitic limestone and the cast stone units, the entire exterior of the ballpark is masonry installed by Franco. The interior of the park is well-served by standard and ground face concrete masonry units, providing the durability required in a ballpark visited by millions of spectators each year.
Franco was the contractor responsible for many aspects of the restoration of the famous fountain at Point State Park in Pittsburgh, PA.
The replacement of the bluestone paving and cobblestone pavers provide the new walking surfaces for visitors to the fountain. Within the fountain itself, a new “infinity ring” of grey and black granite creates a stunning new visual. Finally, the existing bathhouses were cleaned and restored, and the interior partitions were replaced with new glazed concrete units.
Located in the heart of the city, the Heinz Lofts add a sense of character and history to Pittsburgh.

Natural sandstone blocks and flooring, quarried in Butler, PA, were used to create this stunning water feature on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. The sandstone was arranged in a specific pattern to allow the water to flow over the blocks and also to create pools for wading. The durable sandstone paving material provides a non-slip walking surface in the pools.
view allPolished black granite was used for the memorial “sundial,” the paving, and the wall panels, which provide a fitting tribute to those who served in the Korean War. The granite was engraved with slogans and maps with significance to the Korean War.

The site of a former gas station was dramatically transformed into an outdoor gathering area for students of Point Park University.
Limestone arches and soffits line the perimeter of the space, while brick pavers provide the durable walking surfaces. Limestone veneered walls with stone caps and a granite water fountain are the other highlights of the space.
CCAC K. Leroy Irvis Science Center
Franco was faced with numerous challenges on the CCAC project, including access to the project site, which is perched high atop the ridge of Pittsburgh’s North Side. The result is a building whose exterior walls are veneered with face brick and cast stone elements, which meshes with its neighboring buildings of a prior generation.
view allThe Fred Rogers Memorial, also known as the Pittsburgh Tribute to Children, was created by forming an elliptical opening in the center of an existing unused bridge pier.Franco furnished and installed the cast stone soffit and trim around the ellipse, which was a mathematical feat in itself. Additionally, Franco cleaned and restored the existing stone bridge pier and installed new sandstone to match the existing at the base of the monument along the river below.
The centerpiece of one of Pittsburgh’s most developing areas, the Bakery Square project consisted of the renovation of a former bakery building into luxury apartments. The existing bakery building was a masonry structure of the highest order, but it had fallen into disrepair.

Franco was responsible for cleaning and repointing the façade, rebuilding the structural masonry piers, and replicating the existing exterior components with new cast stone and granite, creating one of the most desirable new addresses in Pittsburgh.
One of Pittsburgh largest office complexes, Franco installed the brick and cast stone on this building on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. The building also houses several restaurants on the first level, demonstrating the versatility of the masonry façade for business as well as pleasure.

Franco was honored and humbled to have installed the marble tribute walls, the granite knee wall and pavers, and the precast concrete benches and other precast concrete elements of the project.
The new home of the Pittsburgh Penguins has a brick façade with cast stone sills and other elements that were all installed by Franco.
At the interior, masonry walls create the corridors and other walls required for a new multi-purpose facility that will provide Pittsburghers and visitors for years to come.
